In the top of the arms the Hoba meteorite, one of the largest meteorites, is shown, as it is found nearby the town.

The name Grootfontain means Big Fountain, which is represented by the large fountain in the lower part of the arms. From the fountain a tree (a Makalani palm) rises as it is a fertile area. In the top of the arms the Hoba meteorite, one of the largest meteorites, is shown, as it is found nearby the town.

The supporters are a kudu and an eland.
