GROSSDEUTSCHLAND DIVISION, WEHRMACHT

History: This Division had it roots in a Ceremonial Guards Unit created in the 1920ies later expanaded to a Regiment called the Wachregiment Berlin (Berlin Guard Regiment) renamed Infanterie Regiment Großdeutschland in 1939, it become a Motorized Infantry Division in 1942 and a Panzergrenadier (Armoured Grenadier) Division in 1943. In November 1944 this division plus some uppgraded support units expanded to form Panzerkorps (Armoured Corps) Großdeutschland

Origin/meaning

The insignia shows the Shoulder strap monogram of the Regiment/Division on a Steel Helmet.
