Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 18, 1951.

Glücksburg received town rights in 1842 and city rights in 1900. The arms were adopted in 1878 and show a grill, symbol of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the city. Glücksburg developed around a monastery, founded in 1210, whose patron saint also was St. Lawrence.
