Origin/meaning
He was elected by the Chapters of the diocese, but did not receive papal approval. He thus resigned within a year to become Provost of the St. Donatius Abbey in Brugge.
Like his predecessors he used his personal arms on the shield of the diocese on his seals. The personal arms show 4 quartered lions, however, without the label as used by the Brederode family (I and III).
