Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 30, 1987.

The swan is taken from the coat of arms of the Schmidt family, who acquired the Gatterndorf manor from Margrave Christian-Ernst in 1700. Wolf-Christoph Schmidt was the tax administrator for the Margrave. The family had a castle built in the village in 1702/03, which is still used as a restaurant today. The family stayed in Gatterndorf until 1779. The division of black, silver and read is also taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Feilitzsch 122a.wsa.jpg, who owned the Gumpertsreuth manor from the 14th to the 16th century.

The red bar in the base of the shield is reminiscent of the Moschler von Gattendorf family, who are attested as lords of Gattendorf in 1294 and who lived in the local castle, which has now fallen into ruin.

Literature: Stadler, 1990.
