Origin/meaning

The arms were registered in 1983.

The shield shows the green municipality between the Præstø and Dybsø fjords. The six wheat-ears represent the six municipalities that merged in 1970. The hammer is a symbol for the local industries and handicrafts and is taken from the old seal of Hammer herred to which part of the municipality belonged.
