Origin/meaning

Even though Detten on the Ems was mentioned as a village with its own court in 1300, there are no old seals known. The oldest seal dates from the 19th century and showed a spindle (for the textile industry) and an anchor (for the shipping on the Ems). In 1937 the present arms were granted, whowing the Ems river with two tools; in the upper part a Wannenmachereisen (I don't know the translation) and in the lower a tool used in the textile industry.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
