Origin/meaning

The arms show the patron saint of Edingen, St. Martin. The local church was devoted to St. Martin since 1494. The image of the saint appears already on the oldest seal of the town, known since 1616.

When the patron saint was changed to St. George, the seals were changed as well, showing St. George killing the dragon. In 1900 when the arms were granted, the composition of the oldest seal was restored.
