Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1950.

The arms are based on the arms of the St. Michael Abbey in Bamberg. The abbey ruled most of the area from 1017-1803. The seals and arms of the abbey showed a winged arm holding a crucifix. The arms symbolises the patron saint the archangel St. Michael. In the arms of Ebing the crucifix is replaced by a pilgrim's stick with an scallop. The scallop is the symbol of St. James, the patron saint of the local church. The colours are taken from the arms of the State of Würzburg, to which the whole area and the abbey belonged.
