Het volgende dorpswapen is bekend :
"Linksgeschuind van azuur en zilver; over alles heen een achtspakig rad van het een in het ander, in het azuur vergezeld van een ster van gioud en in het zilver van een lelie van azuur."
Oorsprong/verklaring:
De schuindeling van het wapen is afgeleid van het oude wapen van Oostdongeradeel. Het rad is het rad van de H.Catharina, de voormalige kerkpatroon van het dorp. De ster is afkomstig uit het wapen van de familie Sirtema van Grovestins. De lelie komt uit het wapen van de familie Mockema.
The division of the shield is derived from the arms of Oostdongeradeel, the municipality to which Aalsum historically belonged. The wheel is the symbol of St. Catherine, former patron saint of the village. The star is taken from the arms of the Sirtema van Grovestins family. The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the Mockema family.
