Origin/meaning

The arms are a combination of elements of the arms of the two former municipalities. The cross is taken from the old arms of Dornstadt, and is a symbol for the former Elchingen monastery, which owned a large part of the territory. The sword is taken from the arms of Tomerdingen, and is a symbol of the high court of justice of the Elchingen monastery which was situated in Tomerdingen.

The sword can also be seen as a symbol for the large German military garrison in the municipality.
