Origin/meaning

In 1949 the city of Brunsbüttelkoog received city rights and the above arms were granted on October 31, 1951. The arms were continued by the new city of Brunsbüttel.

Brunsbüttel(koog) developed after the opening of the canal from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea at the end of the 19^th century. The wavy bend symbolises the canal. The spade symbolises the digging of many small canals and ditches to drain the country, to make it suitable for agriculture. The anchor indicates the importance of shipping for the city.
