Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 27, 1954.

The arms show in the first quarter the Stearkenburg castle, one of the main castles in the district. The flower symbolises the wealth of flowers in the spring. The cross is taken from the former Imperial abbey of Lorsch in the district. The lion in the fourth quarter is the lion of Hessen, to which the district belongs.
