The arms are one of the oldest county arms in Germany. The head shows the antler of the Counts of [[Württemberg]], who obtained the area from the Counts of (Hohen)Zollern in 1404. The castle represents the Schalksburg-castle, which was owned by the Lords of Rosenfeld, an important dynasty in the area. The colours of the lower field are the [[Austria|Austrian]] colours and represent the county Hohenberg, which became an Austrian possession in 1381.
