BAKUM

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Vechta

Wappen von Bakum/Arms (crest) of Bakum
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1950 and were only slightly different form the arms previously granted in 1936.

The helmet and crest are derived from the arms of the Lords von Schagen, who lived on one of the many estates in the municipality. The cross is derived from the arms of the Knightsof Sutholte, who lived until 1472 on the Daren estate. The colours are derived from the colours of the States of Münster and Oldenburg, to which the area historically belonged.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
