Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 23, 1934.
The arms symbolise both agriculture and industry. The area was totally dependent on agriculture until 1827, when the Carlshütte factory was established. Ever since the town has developed into a major industrial centre in Schleswig-Holstein.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
