The three wheatears indicate the importance of agriculture for the municipality. The tools are a hoe, as the name Astert-Asterode refers to clearing of the forest (roden). The hammer is a typical hammer used by roof slate workers, as slate was quarried in the area. | |||
The blue colour refers to the Counts of Nassau as the are belonge dto Nassau from 1806-1866. The red is taken from the arms of the County Sayn and Sayn-Hachenburg, to which the area belonged until 1799. | |||
