ANTOINE HENRI VAN DEN HURK
Born : March 16, 1907
Deceased : August 15, 1989
Apostolic Vicar of Medan, 1955-1961; Titular Bishop of Phelbes
Archbishop of Medan, 1961-1976
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The candle is the Easter Candle and symbolises the Light of the World. It is a traditional Christian symbol, flanked by two local Sumatran lamps tor the evangelisation of the local people. The waves refer to the Lake Toba and the seas surrounding the archdiocese. The year 1955 on the candle indicates the year he became a bishop.
