Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 26, 1964.

The arms combine elements of the arms of the former rulers in the area. The first quarter shows the lion of the Counts of the Rhein, the second the arms of the Couonts of Sponheim, the third the cross of the State of Trier and the fourth the lion of the Lordship of Oberstein.

The bordure is a typical element for an Amt.
