Origin/meaning

The city developed around a castle of the Dukes of Pommern and was mentioned as a city in 1245. The arms are based on the oldest seals of the city and show the castle with the griffin of Pommern (Pommerania). The seals also showed on the other side of the main tower a helmet with peacock feathers, also taken from the arms of Pommern.
