Gespalten von Rot und Silber, darin eine silberne Burg; an der Torstelle belegt mit einem goldenen Schild, darin ein schwarzer Löwe mit roter Zunge und Bewehrung; rechts vom Turm schwebend eine silberne Hand, links eine rote Rose mit goldenem Butzen und grünen Kelchblättern.

Origin/meaning

The arms show the castle Altenburg, the lion of Meissen, as the city was part of the County Meissen, a hand as a symbol for justice, and a rose, taken from the Markgraves of Altenburg.
