BISKUPIEC (OLSZTYN)

Province: Warmia i Mazury
County: Olsztyn

Arms of Biskupiec (Olsztyn)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are canting for the german name of the city, Bischofsburg (Bishop's castle) and show a bishop's mitre before a castle. The smaller shield in front may be the arms of the founder or the city, Bishop Heinrich Sorenbaum of Ermeland. The oldest known seal, dating from the 15th century, already shows these arms.
