Pleisweiler-Oberhofen
Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
PLEISWEILER-OBERHOFEN
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Südliche Weinstrasse
Verbandsgemeinde: Bad Bergzabern
Origin/meaning :
The arms were officially granted on July 17, 1982.
The oldest seals of the village of Pleisweiler are known form the 16th century and show already the Archangel Michael, killing a dragon. St. Michael is the patron saint of the Klingenmünster Abbey, to which the village historically belonged.
All later seals of the (combined) villages of Pleisweiler and oberhofen showed the same composition afterwards. In the early 20th century Hupp showed the arms in the wrong colours (see below), as the historical colours are those of the Pfalz (gold/black), as the area is part of the Pfalz region.
