NIKOLAUS VON WEIS
Born: March 8, 1796
Deceased: December 13, 1869
Bishop of Speyer, 1842-1869
English | blazon wanted |
Gespalten von Blau und (?); vorne ein silbernes Kreuz; hinten ein Lamm, das mit dem rechten Vorderfuß eine Hirtenschippe hält.
Origin/meaning
The arms show the cross of the Diocese of Speyer and a lamb holding a shepherds' staff. The lamb is the Agnus Dei, which, in this case, does not hold a banner, but a shepherds' staff, a symbol for his father, who was a shepherd, and for a bishop in general (the shepherd of his congregation).
