LA CHAUX
Canton : Vaud
Incorporated into : 19?? Sainte-Croix
Official blazon
Coupé d'argent et de gueules, à deux croix de Malte de l'un en l'autre.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted in 1922.
Before 1223, the lords of Cossonay gave La Chaux to the knights of the Temple, whose order was abolished in 1312. The commandery then passed into the hands of the Knights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, which became the principal establishment in the Land of Vaud until the Bernese conquest. This is symbolised by the red cross of the Knights Templar and the silver Cross of Hospitallers.
