Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1953 and show a church and the arms of bambergBamberg]]. The village belonged to the bishops of Bamberg since 1384. The oldest seals of the town date from the 15^th century and show, as in all later seals, already a building and the arms of Bamberg. Which building was actually shown, if it was a local building at all, is not known. In 1812 it was stated that it was the local castle, which was rebuilt as a church. In 1889 it was mentioned as the old city hall. In 1953 it was decided to be a Romanesque church. In 1819 it was decided that the arms of Bamberg were outdated and should be removed as the town was now part of Bayern. Until 1839 thus only a church was seen on the arms and seals. In 1839 the arms were again added, but the arms were nor properly described or granted, which resulted in many variations, such as the one published by Hupp in the 1920s:
