Origin/meaning

The bishop was a monk in the Norbertine Abbey in Averbode, Belgium, before moving to Denmark as a parish priest in Vejle in 1903. In 1922 he was promoted to Apostolic Vicar of Denmark (and Iceland). His arms show a quartered shield with in I and IV the arms of the Norbertine Order (or Premonstratensians) and in II and III the arms of the Abbey of Averbode. As an inescutcheon the arms of the city of Roskilde, the name of his Titular See.
