JOHN BERNARD MACGINLEY

Born : August 19, 1871
Deceased : October 18, 1969

Bishop of Nueva Cáceres, 1910-1924
Bishop of Monterey-Fresno, 1924-1932
Titular Bishop of Croae, 1932-1969

Arms of John Bernard MacGinley

Official blazon

  • (personal arms) Gules, a stag lodged silver, quartering silver, a swan sable; on a chief azure a gold eagle.

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The stag is taken from some MagGinley family arms and thus symbolises the last name of the bishop. The swan is taken from some Sinnott family and represents the name of the bishop's mother. The chis shows the eagle of St. John, the patron saint of the bishop.
