Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 28, 1985.

The silver and red division is taken from the arms of the State of Augsburg, to which the area historically belonged. The Franciscan monastery in Kaufbeuren and the Steingaden monastery had many possessions in the area, hence the use of the eagle of Kaufbeuren and the griffin taken from the arms of the Steingaden monastery.
