Origin/meaning
The arms were designed in 1937 and officially granted in 1957.
The deer and the plaid with the pointed bar are derived from the arms of the Lords of Bodendieke, known since the 13th century. The family had many possessions in the area until 1666. The lower half shows the former Bodenteicher Lake, now mainly a swamp area.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
