Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1932.

The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, known since 1384. The arms show a city gate with in the gate the arms of the counts of Schwarzburg, who bought the city in 1340 from the Counts of Beichlingen.

Literature: Hupp, O: Kaffee Hag albums, 1920s; Benzing et al, 1984; Ulle, 1997
