MÖRNSHEIM

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Eichstätt
Additions: 1971 Altendorf, Haunsfeld (partly); 1972 Mühlheim; 1978 Ensfeld

Wappen von Mörnsheim/Arms (crest) of Mörnsheim
Official blazon
German In Rot ein silberner Zinnenturm, vor dessen Tor ein blau gekleideter Mann steht, der an goldener Lanze eine rote Fahne hält; darauf die silberne Krümme eines Bischofsstabs.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

According to legend the arms were granted during the reign of Johann von Eich, Bishop of Eichstätt from 1445-1464, but no proof thereof still exists. The oldest known seal, however, dates from the same period and the seal does show the arms. The tower probably symbolises the local castle and fortress. The boy holds a banner of the State of Eichstätt, to which the town historically belonged. The colours of the arms are not known prior to 1811. The boy was sometimes shown as a Moor, as a canting symbol.
