The arms were granted in 1956.

The arms are a combination of the arms of the counts of Isenburg (upper part, see [[Neu-Isenburg]]) and the swan, which was the crest of the counts of Hanau. In the 17<sup>th</sup> century both families ruled over Münster. The arms are based on a seal from 1683, in which the two arms were quartered.
