The chevron represents the Fave and the Meurthe rivers which divide Sainte Marguerite in the same way as the chevron divides the shield. The rose indicates that the Cathedral Chapter of Saint Dié had many rights in Saint Marguerite. The horn symbolises the hunt during which Charlemagne would have lost himself in the marshes of the Meurthe. The dragon is the one who was slain by Saint Margaret of Antioch and thus refers to the patron saint.
