Origin/meaning
The seven stars and seven candlesticks represent the seven churches described in the Book of the Revelation of St. John the Divine (1:20).
An earlier seal of the Corporation of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, of which the present arms or shield is a considerable simplification, was adopted by the Cathedral Trustees in 1901:
