History: Formed in October 1942 at Benson from the No 1 Photo Reconnaissance Unit.
Official blazon
A bird's eye speedwell proper.
Motto: Alone above all.
Origin/meaning
The Bird's Eye Speedwell symbolise the Photo Reconnaissance Role of the Unit. The Bird's Eye alludes to the High Level Photography whilst the word "speedwell" symbolise the ground crew who see the pilot on his way. The badge was granted in November 1944.
