Origin/meaning

The shield is quartered by the monogramatic cross of Cehegin, from his horizontal arm hang the initials of the Greek letters Alpha (α) and Omega (Ω), symbol of Christ beginning and end.

The first quarter shows the anagram of the Virgin Mary, with a golden heart representing the heart of the Lady, the patron saint of the bishop. The second quarter shows symbols of service and the priestly functions of the Eucharist. The third quarter represents Saint Fulgenius, patron of the diocese of Cartagena. The fourth shows Saint Joseph, patron of the universal Church.

The motto Sufficit tibi gratia mea means My grace is enough for you.
