PIER GIACOMO GRAMPA

Born : October 28, 1936
Deceased :

Bishop of Lugano, 2004-2013

Arms (crest) of Pier Giacomo Grampa

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are quartered, but instead of the diocesan arms in the first and fourth quarter, the bishop replaced the grill of St. Lawrence in the first quarter by crossed keys. The keys and the scallop in the second quarter, are symbols of St. Peter (Pier) and St. James (Giacomo), the baptismal saints of the bishop.

The inflamed heart was chosen as a symbol of pastoral solicitude fueled by the flame of God's love. Furthermore, a flame is also part of the arms of the municipality of Busto Arsizio, where the bishop was born.
