Mertonmorden.jpg

Official blazon

Arms : Sable a Fret Or on a Chief of the last two Lions passant respectant of the field.
Motto : 'IN LIBERTATE VIS' - Our strength is our freedom

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 12, 1943.

The arms have the gold fret on black of Merton Priory. The gold chief has black lions, from the arms of Sir Richard Garth, Lord of the Manor of Morden. Thus the parts of the district are represented in the arms.
