BURCHELL ALEXANDER MCPHERSON
Born : May 7, 1951
Deceased :
Bishop of Montego Bay, 2013-present
Impaled with the diocesan arms |
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The lower half of th epersonal arms shows an Abeng, a cow's horn blown to bring people together in cultural ceremonies, and used traditionally by the Maroons of Jamaica, black slaves who escaped from the colonial plantations and won for themselves significant autonomy in 17 40 in remote interior communities long before emancipation in the rest of the Caribbean. Bishop McPherson traces some of his roots back to the Maroon Community.
