FRANCIS WILLIAM HOWARD
Born : June 21, 1867
Deceased : January 18, 1944
Bishop of Covington, 1923-1944
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The six crosses on a blue field are taken from the arms of a Howard family and are used here to symbolise the name of the bishop. The bend is taken from the arms of the patron saint of the bishop, St. Francis de Sales.
The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop.
