Country : Germany State : Rheinland-Pfalz District (Kreis) : Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm (until 1969 Bitburg) Incorporated into: |
German | In Silber ein blauer Schrägrechts-Wellenbalken mit rotem Glevenkreuz belegt. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 23, 1974.
The cross is taken from the seal of the Abbey of Echternach, as 13 out of the 17 municipalities in the Verbandsgemeinde historically belonged to the Abbey (the others to the Lordships Bettingen and Burscheid or the County Vianden).
The wavy bend symbolises the Sauer river, the current border with Luxembourg.
