Oorsprong/verklaring :
Het wapen is afgeleid van het wapen van de familie Van Vleuten. Al in het manuscript van heraut Gelre wordt een wapen genoemd voor Jan van Vleuten met daarop een halve uitkomende leeuw van keel. Of er een verband bestaat met de leeuw van Holland is me niet bekend.

Het wapen is opgenomen in het nieuwe wapen van Vleuten-De Meern.
