Windmills are very common all over Europe. They are a kind of national symbol for Holland (the Netherlands), but can be found in many more countries. There are actually surprisingly few arms with windmills in the Netherlands, except in arms of waterboards. Historically windmills were used to drain the lakes, which was one of the tasks of the waterboards.
Generally windmills have four blades, but in heraldry also three- and five-bladed windmills can be found.
In this section only complete windmills are added, not arms with only blades.
