"In azuur een gouden dwarsbalk, vergezeld van 3 zilveren adelaars, 2 van boven en 1 van onderen. Het schild gedekt met een gouden kroon van 3 bladeren en 2 paarlen."

Oorsprong/verklaring :
Het wapen is ontleend aan het wapen van de heren van Poelgeest, van 1200 tot ongeveer 1700 bezitters der heerlijkheid Koudekerk.

In Van der Aa's Aardrijkskundig Woordenboek der Nederlanden, 1845, werd een geheel ander wapen beschreven voor de gemeente : "Het wapen der gemeente is een schild van zilver, met eenen klimmenden leeuw, beladen met een balk van sabel, voor den leeuw zijn vier, en achter hem zijn twee blokjes van sabel (zwart). Dit wapen is uit den huize van Teylingen van Tol voortgesproten".
