Dorpswapen van Kollum

Oorsprong/verklaring :
De vlecke Kollum voerde al vanouds een wapen, "doorsneden van rood, goud en groen". Het wapen komt voor in de wapenboeken van Andries Schoemaker (1695) en Gerrit Hesman (1708). Bij Hesman staat er een rode ster op de gouden balk.
Omdat het wapen velen niet meer aansprak, is het bij gelegenheid vermeerderd. Op het oude wapen werd een zwaard geplaatst, symbool van de gerechtigheid. In Kollum stond vroeger namelijk het rechthuis. Om een evenwicht te geven, werden er twee sterren aan toegevoegd, welke aangeven dat Kollum de hoofdplaats van de gemeente is.
