STOCKHOLMS LÄN
Additions : 1968 Överståthållereämbetet i Stockholm

Origin/meaning :
The left arms were used from 1947-1968, the right arms since 1968.
The old arms date from the 18th century and combine the griffin taken from the arms of the Sörmland territory, with the orb taken from the arms of the Uppland territory. In 1941 the shield was divided and these new arms were formally granted in 1947.
When the new province was created in 1968 new arms were necessary. The new arms combine the griffin's head and the orb with the head of St. Erik, taken from the arms of the city of Stockholm.
