ÖVERSTÅTHÅLLEREÄMBETET I STOCKHOLM
Origin/meaning :
The arms are basically identical, with the exception of the crown.
The arms of Södermanland show a griffin and date from 1560. The symbol was chosen by Gustav Vasa without any special significance. The griffin was a popular image in heraldry. The griffin was also used by one of his sons, Prince Karl.
The arms were continued by the province and were granted in 1940.
