Swedish Arms

HALLAND

Origin/meaning :
The arms of Halland are first known since 1660, when they were seen at the funeral of King Karl X Gustaf. Ever since Halland has used the silver lion in blue, often, but not always armed of red. Not until 1941 the red tongue and nails were formally described.
The origin of the lion is not known. It has been stated that the lion is derived from the arms of Bengt Algotsson, Duke of Finland and Halland, and who used a lion in his arms. It may also be a variation of the Swedish lion.

Literature : Nevéus and de Waern, Ny Svensk Vapenbok, 1992.
