		Sveriges Kommunvapen Swedish Civic Heraldry NYKÖPING Additions : 1971 Rönö, Stigtoma, Tunaberg, Tystberga, from 1974-1992 Trosa, Gnesta, Daga and Vagnhärad were also part of Nyköping. Origin/meaning : The arms were granted on April 6, 1945. Nyköping was one of Sweden's most important cities in the Middle Ages. The oldest seal of the city dates from 1359 and the arms are based on this seal. The arms thus have not really changed since. Literature : Scheffer, C.G.U.; Svensk Vapenbok, Stockholm, 1967; Neveus and de Waern, Ny Svensk Vapenbok, 1992.
